Pumpkin Patch Kids
Yesterday there was a distinct autumn chill as clouds tossed moodily around the sky. It was the perfect day to visit a pumpkin farm! Straight after school we rounded up the kids and took a 45-minute drive to Cammas Hall Farm.
It was the first time we’d ever been pumpkin picking, and our excitement had us bouncing in the car. Plus, my husband put the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack on to really get us going. Road trip! Pumpkins! Tree-lined streets! ‘This is Halloween (Halloween, Halloween)!’
The entrance of the farm is decorated in a suitably festive Halloween arch, where a kind man directed us in and told us how to redeem the booking fee against our pumpkins. This is £2 per person and you get it back when you make your purchase in the farm shop.

On the other side of the arch is a handy little cart with sample pumpkins and prices, so you can get an idea of what they might cost you. You’ll soon see why this is a really good idea! The rows and rows of autumnal coloured pumpkins are so artfully laid out, I wanted to take about 25 pumpkins home with me!
Also handy (and fun to push around) is the free use of a pumpkin trolley. The boys had great fun filling it up and scooting it around the farm, pumpkins rolling from side to side.

There were plenty of sweet photo opportunities, and although it was busy enough to fill buzzy, it didn’t feel crowded at all. So social distancing was never an issue. Lots of signs were around reminding people how to be safe too.

We usually pick up pumpkins from the grocery store, but the farm had lots of different types. There were suitably spooky pumpkins white pumpkins, deep blue-grey pumpkins, and even warty pumpkins! I am a bit obsessed with the adorable little squashes in splotches of orange, yellow and green, which were only £5 for four of them.

After deliberating over our favourite pumpkins for far too long, we made our final choices and headed into the farm shop. Don’t forget your mask because this shop is amazing! Homemade jams and Halloween gingerbread cookies looked incredible. Hot food is available at the back – the veggie sausage butty looked lush.

If you have time to make a day of it, they also had a Maize Maze. Last entry to the maze is at 3 pm so we missed it, but we are looking forward to trying it when we go back!
Pumpkin picking at Cammas Hall is definitely worth the trip. It’s so much fun and quite relaxing to spend family time soaking up the autumn air. You can find all the info on booking a place on their website here.
