What’s better than a film and popcorn? A movie night snack board! While Pinterest is full of beautiful movie snack trays, they usually feature American treats you can only find in the USA. But we have found delicious ideas for DIY movie night snack trays you can make right here in the UK!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about entertaining kids, it’s that a plate of treats will make them sit through any film – and this is a tray worthy of their full attention!

What is a snack board?

A snack board is basically any kind of tray with a selection of treats, which you can choose to fit a theme. In this case, we have snacks we would normally want to eat while watching a film.

You’ll love making a snack board because they take a minimal amount of effort. And at the same time, they are hugely impressive to look at. The kids can join in with making them and everyone can help themselves. They make an average film night feel a little bit fancy.

How to make your own movie night snack board

  1. Find a platter, tray or board; the size will depend on how many people you are feeding (I used a 35cm round tray for our family of 4). If you don’t have one, just collect some bowls and plates to use together.
  2. Choose a selection of treats. If you want it to look more aesthetically pleasing, pick a variety of shapes, colours and textures. For an interesting variety of tastes,  think about treats that are sweet, salty, savoury and even sour.
  3. Make use of small bowls to help keep the smaller snacks a bit more separate on the board. Put these on the board first, then add other snacks around the bowls to fill in between the spaces.
  4. Feel free to repeat snack items in different parts of the tray, especially everyone’s favourites!
  5. And now it’s complete. If you’re worried that your little ones might over-indulge on treats, consider putting the tray on a counter or table and giving them an appropriate-sized bowl to fill up for themselves. When everyone’s filled their bowls, you can tuck the larger tray out of sight for another time.
